A complete RU950 system setup file.

This is an activity-based configuration with a favourites section designed to simplify the use of Italian "Sky" television. There is also a multizone feature, but it's still a work in progress.

This is my first attempt at a PCF. I did a lot of testing and learned a lot from everyone else's designs, so thanks a ton for that. Clearly this design is heavily influenced by contest entry #3 so props to Brian for it. I have been lurking on Remote Central for the longest time and this is my way of saying thanks.

I have tried to do three things with this design. One, I found most designs to be visually overwhelming so I tried to keep this one as minimal as possible. There is a slight transparency to everything that allows a background image of my old Mitsubishi TV to come thru. Its supper subtle so, I didn't bother changing it when I upgraded my TV last year. Everything was created as squares and rectangles in Photoshop without any outerglows, embossing or drop shadows. I have included 2 PSD templates if anyone wants to modify or update an image.

Two, anyone can use it with no more than 15 seconds of tutoring. I have had the design evolve over the last 2 years and after countless guests and a live in girlfriend, I am very confident of the navigability and flow. This remote features for the user:

Inviting splash screen introduces the location of the remote, the designer, and features inviting background art.

Color-coded functionality, allowing easy discernment between video and audio functions. The user may simply glance at the remote to find where they are.

Directions are provided on pages that may need instructions to continue use.

Subdued background art demonstrates the selected function without overpowering displayed buttons.

Latching source buttons that glow to let the user know exactly where they are.

Pages are titled to further assist the user in navigating through the remote.

Sides of the touchscreen and hard buttons are reserved for consistent mode buttons. The center of the remote is the active use area.

Maximum icons are used to minimize required reading. Text is provided only when icons will not suffice to explain the button’s function.

Well-placed and sized buttons allow a wider variety of finger sizes to use it.

Button placements are consistent, regardless of the function, source, or mode selected, allowing less required reading for the user during normal use.

System optimized for two activities - DVD video and CD music. Includes macros for lighting, help screens and all IR codes on separate pages. Makes heavy use of hard buttons. Updated lighting.
