Jeff's Australian TSU7000 System

This is about the 5th version of this particular system because I'm always looking for and finding new ideas. A continual work in progress. Thanks to all as it contains bits and pieces from just about everyone out there, some more than others, with a bit of my own as well. Worthy of a quick play in the simulator, note that the 4 digit code to access the settings is 1111.

Contest Entry #26: Tranquil Blue

This is my first Pronto configuration. My goal was to replace my MX-1000 with the TSU7000, and add a few things that I could not do on the MX-1000. I set out to create a 100% original art work configuration. I created the buttons using Crystal Buttons, followed up with enhancements using PhotoImpact. I also tinted the system bitmaps blue by replacing the bitmaps in the PCF file, and created pressed bitmaps of all buttons to look like they are lighting up when they are pressed.

I created a device bar for my major devices. This can be clicked to jump directly to a device although you have to use your fingernail since it so small. I also created an information screen for the device hard buttons.

Contest Entry #07: The Works

The result of my design: 134 custom-made buttons (not counting spacers & labels)! My favorite button is the volume toggle in the lower right page. Here's what's unique about my configuration:

  • Consistent frame-based GUI with three button groups in frame:
TOP: device selection with trinary button states - pressing a pressed button in the main page of a device executes a setup macro with auto-power-on, etc.
LEFT: device specific buttons, e.g. TiVo: Favorites, Thumbs Up/Down, Slo-Mo
BOTTOM: “orthogonal” (e.g. X-10 & Amplifier are always needed independent media devices), or common functions (Keypad)
  • Modifier buttons, when pressed once, lead to an extra screen – when pressed again they lead back to same device
  • Eye pleasing “soft” design with fairly correct lighting (shadows, etc.) and well balanced colors
  • Simplicity – one page operation with most common functions
  • No confusing clutter (I put in time, date & battery for completeness only... I actually prefer it without those items, but it's easier to erase them than to integrate them later)
  • The activity signal is still visible, though barely taking up any space now
  • Background is defined on the System page only,... (more)

I tried to make this so it would require the least amount of manual page swapping as possible. Most pages are hidden, except the first page of each device (because I bump the side page buttons when picking up the remote). The device title takes you to Page Overview (my own). Also added a lock.

A full system PCF with some modified buttons and new graphics imported by me. Also the x-10 codes took ages to come up with using makehex. They now work well with the Marmitek IR7243. When I started this file there were no codes for the IR7243 - so I hope this helps. Some sections are borrowed from other people - thanks.

This design is straight forward and flexible and takes advantage of the advanced graphics capability of the TSU7000. The interface was designed to be user friendly for all who may use it. In most cases, each component has one screen containing the most used buttons that keeps ‘screen flipping’ to a minimum. Furthermore, the user can switch from any component to another from any screen in the interface. For example, if you are watching TV and want to switch to the DVD, all you need to do is tap the DVD icon on the top of the page and the TSU7000 will turn off the TV and switch on all components needed to watch a DVD.

What makes this design unique is the presence of the ‘splash’ screens. Splash screens are the ‘animated’ screens that appear while the TSU7000 is performing a lengthy macro. For example, when the TSU7000 is sending the commands to turn on a component, there are many steps it needs to perform. In the 5-7 seconds this takes to complete, this interface will flash through screens updating the user on the status of the task.

NOTE: All hard keys will be used to control VOL+/-, CH+/-,MUTE and DIRECTION PAD for each component interface.

    John Yates' Layout

Another attempt to get a more fluid design. I'm still learning the art of graphic creation so only 50% or so are original. PCF features multiple choices of backgrounds (8) with a consistent layout for devices. 'Top' menu selects device pages; 'Bottom' menu does macro setup for devices.

This is a PCF file that I designed 100%. It contains many devices and has a consistent easy-to-use layout throughout. The system page contains a modified version of the chrome Pronto symbol that is used as a home page button. There are two satellite boxes, each with all available DirecTV channel icons, as well as channel icons for my cable TV channels - located in the TV device. The DVD jukebox contains jackets for over 300 DVDs and allow you to jump directly to that disc. The CD jukebox currently has a sample page with CD jackets, I haven't loaded my changer yet. In the discrete codes section there are macros to get to any of the 400 discs in the DVD jukebox and the 400 discs in the CD jukebox.

The file is large, but will download to the remote and simulates very well. The learning curve is very small. Enjoy it!

Here is an updated version of my previous PCF. Basically the same with some updated Vista graphics. I made some more use of transparencies and made the buttons larger. Hope you like.
